40-days experiment
I’m unsure why but I’ve always been fascinated with experiments that challenge our way of being and suggest the active and conscious shifting of habits for a continuous amount of time can create a whole new universe for ourselves and influence a sort of gravitational pull into what we want out of life. I know that’s a big promise, but I also know it works. I’ve done it, multiple times and in diverse ways and can vouch for the magic of it. I also sense that, as humans, we have a tendency to look for sameness, we go into auto mode and then wonder why we’re less than happy.
We could go on but the bottom line is: I love challenging myself to create new rituals that align with the new things I want to experience, and I don’t know if that’s your experience as well but I often feel I need to consciously do it, everyday for a few days or weeks so it sticks and I don’t revert back to old patterns. All that said, I’m here to share my “40 days experiment” with you. You may adapt it, create your own or simply join me on this journey as I aim to integrate a more grounded and present way of being that aligns with
Week 1: Decluttering and arranging your living space by creating cozy corners with blankets, pillows, and soft lighting. Each day, spend at least 10 minutes sitting in your cozy spot, practicing mindfulness and simply enjoying the ambiance, no phone scrolling, have books around, play a vinyl or simply enjoy the natural sounds around.
Week 2: Embracing Comfort and Nourishment 6.
- Prepare a warm and hearty breakfast for yourself. Enjoy it without distractions, savoring each bite.
- Take a leisurely walk in nature, focusing on the sights, sounds, and smells around you.
- Try a new comfort food recipe each day. Spend time cooking and enjoying the process as well as the end result.
Embarking on a 40-day hygge experiment can be a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the cozy and contented lifestyle. Here's a suggested daily activity plan for your 40-day hygge experiment:
Week 1: Creating Cozy Spaces and Mindfulness

Day 14: Write handwritten letters or cards to friends or family members, expressing your appreciation and love for them.
Day 15-19: Experiment with different ways to celebrate hygge holidays, such as creating your own personalized holiday traditions or decorations.
Week 4: Self-Care and Reflection 12.
Day 20: Dedicate the day to self-care. Take a long bath, practice gentle stretching, and spend time journaling about your hygge experiences so far.
Day 21: Explore a creative hobby, like drawing, painting, knitting, or crafting. Let your creativity flow without judgment.
Day 22-26: Practice gratitude daily by listing three things you're grateful for before going to bed. Reflect on the positive aspects of your life.
Week 5: Digital Detox and Simple Pleasures 15.
Day 27: Declare a technology-free day. Avoid screens and engage in analog activities like reading a physical book, doing puzzles, or writing in a journal.
Day 28: Create a playlist of soothing and calming music. Spend the day listening to it while enjoying your cozy space.
Day 29-33: Engage in simple pleasures each day, such as taking a leisurely afternoon walk, enjoying a cup of herbal tea, or watching the sunset.
Week 6: Gratitude and Hygge Lifestyle Integration 18.
Day 34: Reflect on your hygge journey so far. How has it influenced your mindset and well-being?
Day 35: Organize a small hygge gathering with friends or family. Share your experiences and insights from the experiment.
Day 36-40: Dedicate the final days to integrating the most impactful hygge practices into your daily routine. Choose the activities that resonated the most with you and continue practicing them beyond the experiment.
